DNR hydrography layer is very complicated. You need to download DEM layer from DNR website only and extract the rest of data from USC GIS Server.

Folks,
GIS lab starts at 12 pm tomorrow in B205.
- Define your working group before class starts ( 5 members in each group)
- Sign in and open ARCMAP.
- Create your ESRI user and password
- Download geospatial data using USDA website (below)

Sharing your Map on the Web
You
will need a ESRI Global Account to enable you to login to ArcGIS Online.
If you do not already have an ESRI Global Account, go to: https://www.arcgis.com/home/createaccount.html and create one.
In
the first part of this exercise using ArcGIS Desktop, you will be working with
the following spatial datasets:
- A polygon shapefile of the your study area, called Watershed
- A line shapefile of river network, called River
These
shapefiles consist of several files (e.g. river.dbf, river.shp, river.shx).
You need
to establish a working folder to do the exercise on. This can be in c:\temp,
your student directory, or on a memory stick attached to the machine you are
working on.
To open
your shapefiles within ARCGIS online, you need to first zip your files and
upload it through ARCGIS online service
Go to add>add layer from
file>Browse>WATERSHED.
I am a member of a number of Groups in ArcGIS Online, and I could choose just to share my map with one or more of those, but instead, let’s share the map to Everyone (public), and that way anyone can see it. I get back a web link for this http://bit.ly/17SX1Nw
And if I put this address into a web browser, my map appears again! Ok, this is pretty cool. I’ve created a map on the web and shared it with others.
STEP 1: We will create a mini project in this course and you would be able to learn about some of ARCGIS cool options. Firstly we will work on preparing GIS basic coverage for a watershed. You can extract the study area characteristics like area, river slope, min and max elevation etc. Besides you learn some ARCMAP extensions.
STEP2: Creating some kind of hydrology maps like flow direction and flow accumulation. We will also work on river profile and plot main river profile for your study area.
STEP3: Finally Share your maps with colleagues online.

Student Installation of ArcGIS 10.2 for GIS in Water Resources

September 2013There are five steps to this process (these are for your information only, since ARCGIS is already installed in computer lab):(6) Activate ARCGIS extentionsHere are the instructions for these steps:If you already have a Username and Password for your ESRI Global Account, then skip this step.If not, go to https://webaccounts.esri.com/CAS/index.cfm and choose Create an Account. You’ll be presented with a large screen with a lot of information that needs to be filled in. Fill out this screen and choose Create Account at the bottom. This will establish your User Name and Password for ArcGIS Online and for validating your software. If you have not yet emailed me your ESRI Global Account username, please do so now.(a) Check the ESRI System Requirements to make sure your computer has the required hardware and software to support the installation of ArcGISBe careful to ensure that your computer has the right operating system and also the necesssary Service Packs installed for that operating system. If you’ve had your computer for a long time and not installed any Service Pack updates, your operating system might not be up to date enough to run ArcGIS Desktop.(b) If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework. This is the most important part of installation. Sometimes model gives NET Framework error which you got to install it properly.(c) If you already have a previous version of ArcGIS Desktop installed on your computer, you’ll need to Uninstall it before installing the new one. To do this, Go to Control Panel/Programs and Features and right click on the icon for ArcGIS and follow the Uninstall instructions.You need to get an authorization number to use ARCGIS Desktop software and its extentions..You will be presented with a choice as to Versions, choose Version 10.2In the succeeding menu, select “ArcGIS for Desktop” Download (811 MB). This takes a little while.You should end up with a single file that looks like this:Double click on the file ArcGIS_Desktop_102_135756.exe and install it on your computer. This takes quite a while, so you might want to get a cup of coffee or do something while the installation goes on.Immediately that your software installation has been completed, you’ll be presented with a ArcGIS Administrator Wizard screen. Select Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use and you’ll see the button, Launch the Authorization Wizard for Single Use Products be activated.Hit Authorize Now and enter your Authorization NumberEnter the same Authorization Number to license the extensions to ArcGIS Desktop. You can license all the extensions if you want to. We’ll use Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst etc. in the class exercises and you may want also to license for example the Geostatistical Analyst. You have to fill in the right hand side box with your Authorization Number by each extension that you want to authorize. It’s not immediately obvious that this is necessary when the screen appears in front of you.Finish this process and you are done!Open ArcMap and select the A new empty map option. If you are using Windows 7 or Windows XP, hit the Start button and you’ll see a series of options for ArcGIS. Select ArcMap.If you are using Windows 8, you’ll see in your Windows display. If you don’t see that, then just type “ArcMap..” and you’ll see the program symbol appears.6. Activate ARCGIS ExtensionsAfter launching the software, you need to properly activate the extensions. Go to Customize/ Customize Mode, and select each extension which you need to work with.Ok, you are good to go now!
